Day 1: Tbilisi-David Gareja-Bodbe-Sighnaghi
  • David-Gareja-  is a rock-hewn Georgian Orthodoxy monastery complex located in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia, on the half-desert slopes of Mount Gareja. The complex includes hundreds of cells, churches, chapels, refectories and living quarters hollowed out of the rock face. Part of the complex is located in the Agstafa rayon  of Azerbaijan and has become subject to a border dispute between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
  • Bodbe-According to Georgian tradition, St. Nino, having witnessed the conversion of Georgians to the Christian faith, withdrew to the Bodbe gorge, in Kakheti, where she died c. 338-340. The Bodbe Monastery is nested among tall Cypress trees on a steep hillside overlooking the Alazani valley, where it commands views of the Greater Caucasus mountains.
  • Sighnaghi- the town and its environs are  known for their landscapes and historical monuments. Sighnaghi has recently undergone a fundamental reconstruction program and has become an important center of Georgia's tourist industry.

Day 2: Sighnaghi-Alaverdi-Gremi-Nekresi-Kvareli Lake-Tbilisi

  • Alaverdi-is a Georgian Eastern Orthodox Monastery. The monastery was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph Alaverdeli, who came from Antioch and settled in Alaverdi, then a small village and former pagan religious center dedicated to the Moon.
  • Gremi- is a 16th-century architectural monument – the royal citadel and the Church of the Archangels – in Kakheti, Georgia. The complex is what has survived from the once flourishing town of Gremi and is located east of the present-day village of the same name in the Kvareli district.
  • Nekresi-is one of the largest monastery complexes in the Kakheti region of Georgia and was founded by St. Abibos Nekreseli, one of the famous thirteen Syrian fathers. The monastery is noted for having withstood the expansion of Zoroastrianism in Georgia. The bishop of the monastery, Abibos Nekreseli, was sentenced to death after pouring water on the Zoroaster fire to show it should not be worshiped as sacred. Nekreseli was canonized for his martyrdom.
